Guitar virtuoso, Al Di Meola, embarked on his Fall concert tour with the band’s second stop in Indianapolis at the beautiful Schrott Center for the Arts at Butler University on September 8, 2022.  For his loyal fans, it was a night of career favorites, new songs from his latest album Across the Universe, with a few Lennon/McCartney tunes added for good measure.

With the excellent beats and supporting rhythms of Richie Morales on percussion and Amit Kavthekar on tabla, the night was truly focused on Di Meola and his talent as a composer and performer of the highest acclaim on the guitar.  Known as a jazz fusionist and champion of world music, his music involves complex rhythms, harmonies, and dazzling techniques.  He has 20 albums he has released as a leader while also collaborating on many others.

His latest project highlights his arrangements and creative interpretations of select Lennon/MacCartney songs with “Norwegian Wood” and “Strawberry Fields Forever” - two tunes on the setlist this night, along with fan favorites “Mediterranean Sundance” and “Fandango.”

With awards too numerous to list, perhaps the most reflective indication of his expertise is that Al has received a total of 12 awards from Guitar Player Magazine polls and, as a result, was inducted into their Gallery of Greats. A true virtuoso and internationally recognized artist receiving the highest acclaim on the guitar, it was a night of stunning, beautiful music.
