Etheridge Knight led a troubled life, clouded by addiction and time in prison. But he also created a body of poetry that has endured, as well as a legacy through the Free People's Poetry Workshops he conducted at the Chatterbox. Knight spent his last years at the Barton Towers and died in 1991.

Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m., Indiana poet laureate Norbert Krapf will emcee a tribute to Knight as part of the "Together Again: Music & Poetry Series" at the Athenaeum's American Cabaret Theatre featuring readings by local poets, including Chatterbox proprietor David Andrichik and a jazz trio consisting of Lawrence Clark III, Carl Hines and Frank Smith. The tribute begins at 7:30 p.m. There is a $5 cover.
