Recap: Granfalloon 2019 Celebrates Kurt Vonnegut

Parquet Courts, Durand Jones and the Indications, and more made their way to Bloomington for the second annual festival.
After a successful first year, Granfalloon returned to Bloomington for its second go-around, celebrating music, literature, and art inspired by Kurt Vonnegut.
The festival culminated with a stacked concert at Upland Brewing Co.’s outdoor stage in Bloomington on Saturday, May 11.
After touring the U.S. in support of their latest album American Love Call, Bloomington soul group Durand Jones and the Indications returned home to kick off Granfalloon’s marquee event.
Playing through a persistent rain, Durand Jones and the Indications illuminated the Granfalloon crowd, grooving through tunes like “Don’t You Know,” “Long Way Home,” “Smile,” and more.
Less than two months before their Bloomington show, Durand Jones and the Indications made their late night television debut with a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Following an hour-long set from Durand Jones and the Indications, New York rock band Parquet Courts took the stage.
As the rain continued to come down, Parquet Courts tore through songs new and old, including several selections from their 2018 album Wide Awake!
The Bloomington appearance marked a one-off performance from the band, who concluded a world tour in February 2019.
In addition to selections from their latest record, Parquet Courts also touched on several old favorites, including tunes from 2016’s Human Performance.
Rain continued to pour throughout Parquet Courts set, with the band ripping on regardless.
Following Parquet Courts, Neko Case took the stage to close out the show.
