The girls in blue-capped off their regular season with a 3-0 win over Detroit City FC, bringing their regular season results to 10W-0L-2D. They were led in scoring by forward Katie Soderstrom with 2 goals first at the 25th minute and again at the 62nd minute. Separated by an additional goal from midfielder Addie Chester in the 60th minute.
The game felt like watching a replay of last Friday’s game when the two teams met for the first in Detroit. The ladies started out with aggressive play and Chester fired the first shot on goal in only the 4th minute, with 3 more attempts following quickly in just the first 10 minutes. Detroit City FC Goalkeeper Deighton Wamer’s multiple diving saves kept Indy to only 1 goal in the first half. Which came in the 25th minute when Soderstorm received a pass from defender Jenna Chatterton and put it in the back of the net.
The Second half was much like the first with halftime Substitute forward Milica Bulatovic having multiple scoring opportunities, but just as her second shot was blocked it was quickly gathered up by Chester where she slipped the ball between multiple Detroit defenders adding Indy’s second goal in the 60th minute.
The celebration and excitement continued two minutes later when Soderstrom added her 11th goal of the season from a penalty kick goal after Karsyn Cherry was tackled inside the area. Giving her the team's solo-scoring lead for the regular season.
Both sides used all five of their allowed subs to get younger players additional experience and to keep the energy up. With substitute Emma Johnson having a scoring opportunity in the 84th minute from a free-kick, that bounced around the 18-yard line and was cleared by Detroit. Ending their inaugural season with a clean sheet in the loss column.
At the time of writing, they await to find out who their opponent is and where the game will be played for their first quarter-final game on Wednesday, July 13th.
